Octothorpe
Who or what is Octothorpe?
Octothorpe n. 1 Another name for the telephone handset symbol #. 2.a band based near Seattle, North America, who describe themselves as ‘avant-jazz lounge core at its finest’. .

Who or What is Octofest?
It is the website you are visiting. It’s a virtual festival.

Who or What is a Virtual Festival?
It’s like a festival in the real world, except there aren’t hundreds of thousands of people, no-one is throwing bottles full of unsavoury liquid, there are no campfire singalongs, nothing is burning, and there’s no mud.

How did it come about?
In March of this year, thieves broke into Octothorpe’s studio and stole the majority of their gear. A a bunch of musicians felt that this act of negativity should be countered with a positive one of their own, so they decided to record a bunch of exclusive stuff (Octothorpe covers, new songs, remixed old favourites) celebrating their love of the mighty Octothorpe.

Where did all these musicians come from?
For the most part, they come from a loosely connected network of websites based around a weekly songwriting competition called songfight. This is well worth a visit if you don’t know of it already. Somesongs, Remixfight and the songfighter’s web-ring are also good resources for free, good quality music.

Will Octofest be a permanent site?
Yes and no. The original Octofest ’05 closed its doors on April 9th, 2005, at 12.00 pm GMT. However, Octothorpe has moved the content to its own website so that you can continue to enjoy it as we do.
